Indigenous Health & Well-being Initiative

Treena Orchard

Treena Orchard, PhD. As a medical anthropologist and feminist, post-colonial scholar, the issues of sexuality, gender, and health form the crux of much of my research, volunteerism, and activism. I have worked primarily with vulnerable populations, nationally and internationally, including young people, female sex workers, gay men, and urban and-on reserve Aboriginal populations. I currently lead a project in Vancouver, which examines how the body and gender structure HIV-positive gay men’s, women’s, and transgender people’s approaches to taking their HIV medications and managing their health. I am also the principal investigator of a project here in London, which focuses on the everyday and structural factors that impact socio-economic, health, and political inequities among women in the sex trade.
